Many households today have animals. The majority of these households are not prepared for the arrival of a new member, the household pet. Puppies as well as kittens are curious animals. They will search out and find the smallest thread, cord, and outlet having no idea of the impending dangers that lie ahead.
If you own a pet, make sure you do a complete check of your house. Check all cords from lamps, appliances, and make sure that if they are near the floor, tape them up out of sight. For example, if you own computer equipment, most connections and power strips are on the floor. Tape them above the desk, this way your pet won't chew on them. Not only can they destroy your expensive equipment, but they face getting a severe shock or possible death.
Cover outlets with safety plug covers, the same type you would use for infants.
Another concern for pets is chemicals and poisons. Do not leave chemicals unopened and lying around. Make sure they are in a closed cabinet out of the way. Poisons should not be stored near or in your house and they should be discarded.
After washing the kitchen floor, make sure you empty the bucket. Pets like to drink out of everything and forget their water bowl. Young kittens and puppies tastebuds aren't developed fully at this age and they will think a chemical is water until too late. This is also true for other household pets.
You and only you can make sure that your pet is protected. They look to us for security and protection from all dangers. Only you can give them the love and protection they need.
