There is nothing quite as relaxing as floating in a raft down a lazy river. The Delaware River, which flows from the uppermost portion of Eastern Pennsylvania, separating Pennsylvania from New Jersey, and opens into the Delaware Bay in Delaware, is the home of one of the most relaxing and scenic river rafting trips on the East Coast. Unlike white-water rafting trips of the Colorado River, a trip on the Delaware is serene, calm and mellow.

Your trip will begin at River Country in Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania, located in Bucks County, approximately an hour's drive from Philadelphia. The great thing about River Country is the variety of choices they offer. You can take a day trip, or camp out and make a vacation of exploring. You can also choose a variety of ways to take your trip: rafting, tubing, canoeing or kayaking, which makes for a fantastic family get-together. Life jackets, paddles, etc. are provided, so all you have to do is show up and enjoy. They also offer "group" trips which is an excellent idea for a family reunion The cost for the day trips, which range from one to four hours is extremely inexpensive.

The standard "trip" down the Delaware spans about six miles and the views are spectacular. The clear water of the Delaware coupled with the mountains on the Pennsylvania side and the greenery on the New Jersey side make this a nature-lover's dream trip. If you get hungry along the way, there's an "Adventure Island" situated approximately half-way on the route. There's a concession stand on the Island, or you can opt to use the picnic grounds located at the end of the route. While the average "trip takes between two and four hours, your time is yours so there is no need to hurry. You can explore the banks of the river or nap in your canoe, and make a full day of it.

Perhaps the best thing about the Delaware River Country trips is that you choose what, when and how long your trip will be. There are no "tour guides" or "time clocks". However, should an emergency arise or services be needed, the staff of River Country is always ready and able to help.

Whether you're a nature lover, a water lover, a person who wants a relaxing vacation or an adventurer, a rafting trip down the Delaware River offers something for everyone.
